show and tell building communication
Goedenavond, Bonsoir, Guten Abend and Good evening.
Thanx a lot for the invitation.
It’s the second for us at PechaKucha, that’s a pleasure.
We are archigraphus from Aachen, markus ulrich, joachim schmidt and a whole bunch of people,
who help us to keep this running.

Last year in Aachen we talked about our main request we are working on: space.
If you are interested, this was our presentation, well take your time,
you have exactly 1 second for every slide, so if you really need more time,
we recommend the PechaKucha site, archigraphus > space follows life follows space.

This time we try to figure out how we developed archigraphus.
Initial - - the direction wasn’t quite obvious.
Our main desire was to create and to recreate spaces and buildings …
and to communicate with people - - confronted everyday with and within space in all kinds of scales.
We call it building communication.
show and tell building communication
Show and tell is an education-method in elementary schools.
Children bring an item from home and explain to the class what personally is so special
about this everyday-object. That’s exactly what we did for the last 9 years:
With excursions, promenades, space installations and interactive actions in public spaces.

But it started much earlier: Markus, together with Professor Gerhard Curdes
published a research: “The influence of contemporary concept and innovation
on the shape of urban space, in this case Cologne” Since then we investigate
this glorious issue: past, present and future depend on the spaces we lived,
live and will live in…

This diagram is only in german, sorry for that, I try to explain:
As an architect you can be brilliant and innovative,
if you can’t create a sense of acceptance, it’s only for the small elite in the centre.
We would like to crack this cocoon for all non-professional in space [die raum laien].
You have to keep in touch with everybody you can reach.

How we manage it: It all started with an offer to the Institut Français,
to be part of their cultural-program ... and so ... over the years ... we developed
about 15 different excursions, confronting people with space, urbanism and architecture
in a hopefully sustainable and entertaining way
